Endotracheal intubation and in-hospital mortality after intracerebral hemorrhage
Cerebrovascular Diseases Jun 18, 2018
Lioutas VA, et al. - Researchers investigated the independent relationship between endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation (MV), hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), and in-hospital mortality (HM) in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in this large single-center observational cohort study. From June 2000 through January 2014, all consecutive patients admitted with a primary diagnosis of a spontaneous ICH to a tertiary care hospital in Boston, who were ≥18 years of age and hospitalized for ≥2 days were eligible for inclusion. In patients with ICH, intubation and MV were independently correlated with higher rates of HAP and HM.
