Endothelial Sox17 promotes allergic airway inflammation
The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology May 03, 2019
Ha EH, et al. - Using a mouse model of airway inflammation, researchers examined how Sry-related high-mobility-group box (Sox) 17, an endothelium-specific transcription factor, is related to IL-33, levels of which are known to be increased in patients with eosinophilic asthma. In addition, they investigated the possible role of Sox17 in the pathogenesis of asthma. Ovalbumin was used to induce airway inflammation in endothelium-specific Sox17 null mutant mice and IL-33 neutralizing antibody was used to evaluate the interplay between IL-33 and Sox17. Outcomes revealed regulation of Sox17 by IL-33. They noted alleviation of asthma-related pathophysiologic features with Sox17 genetic ablation in endothelial cells. Findings suggest Sox17 as a possible potential target for asthma management.
