Endoscopic sinus surgery for type-2 CRS wNP: An endotype-based retrospective study
The Laryngoscope Jan 24, 2019
Alsharif S, et al. - In this retrospective case-control study, 50 subjects were examined for the comparative study of type 2 endotype chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) subjects who underwent classical mucosa-sparing endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) or the reboot approach between 2015 and 2017. All the candidates were observed with a type 2 inflammation of the mucosal tissue harvested during surgery. Researchers noted 45% of cases relapsed in the classical approach group, 17% in partial reboot group, and 8% in full reboot group. They concluded complete eradication of diseased mucosa from the paranasal sinuses in the reboot approach significantly decreased the recurrence of nasal polyps for 30 months postoperatively.
