Endoscopic septoplasty vs traditional septoplasty for treating deviated nasal septum: a prospective, randomized controlled trial
ENT Journal May 01, 2020
Na’ara S, et al. - This is the first prospective, randomized controlled trial investigating the clinical outcomes and quality of life results of endoscopic vs trans-nasal trans-speculum (TNTS) septoplasty in individuals with septal deviation and nasal obstruction. Patients who underwent primary surgery to repair deviated nasal septum due to nasal obstruction were older than 18 years of age and eligible for inclusion in the study. Participants in the study were 65 patients (34 in the endoscopic arm and 31 in the TNTS septoplasty arm). Sixty patients, 30 in each study arm, completed this study. There have been no reports of septal perforation or profound bleeding that would require repeated surgery. Endoscopic septoplasty and TNTS give comparable outcomes for treating deviation of the nasal septum.
