Endoscopic resection of sinonasal inverted papilloma: A multivariate retrospective analysis of factors affecting recurrence and persistence
ENT Journal Dec 07, 2019
Minni A, Gera R, Bulgheroni C, et al. - Since sinonasal inverted papilloma (IP), first described in 1854, was the most common benign epithelial tumor in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, with a worldwide incidence between 0.6 and 1.5/100,000 persons per year, researchers examined the medical records of 130 individuals who were surgically treated for sinonasal IP to assess the factors influencing recurrence and persistence of IP and contrasted the curative rates of different surgical approaches. According to this multicenter retrospective study, IP recurrence was strongly associated with specific risk factors involving incomplete surgical removal, stage of the disease, site of the lesion, surgical technique, and malignancy rate. During clinical evaluation and in particular during the follow-up of patients with IP, such factors must be carefully considered.
