Endoscopic biliary sphincterotomy in patients under antithromboembolic therapy
Zeitschrift für Gastroenterologie Aug 14, 2017
Samie AA, et al. – The researchers conducted this retrospective study to assess the rate of procedural bleeding in patients undergoing endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) in their endoscopy unit while on antithromboembolic therapy. In patients taking clopidogrel and/or aspirin or heparin, bleeding following EST was neither increased and rarely required transfusion of packed red blood cells nor does it lead to an increased mortality. However, following EST, bleeding seemed to occur more frequently in patients with a compromised health status or following precut of the papilla.
