Gibson W, et al. - Researchers here aimed at assessing the impact of observing pain (extrinsic threat) and intrinsic threat of pain to oneself on pressure pain threshold (PPT). Findings revealed that extrinsic and intrinsic threat of pain, in the absence of any afferent input, influence pain modulation. They suggest considering the findings in studies that employ noxious afferent input with populations who show dysfunctional pain modulation.
