Endocarditis in children and adolescents with congenital heart defects: A Norwegian nationwide register-based cohort study
Archives of Diseases in Childhood Jun 22, 2018
Jortveit J, et al. - Data on all children with congenital heart defects (CHD) and infective endocarditis (IE) born in Norway between 1994 and 2016 were retrieved from the Oslo University Hospital’s Clinical Registry for Congenital Heart Defects to study the incidence and outcomes of IE in children and adolescents with CHDs. The results obtained from this nationwide register-based cohort study indicate that the occurrence of IE in children and adolescents with CHDs was higher as compared to the reported occurrence in the general population. Findings revealed that IE had significant mortality and was linked with severe CHDs and recent complex cardiac interventions.
