End tidal CO2 and cerebral oximetry for the prediction of return of spontaneous circulation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation
Resuscitation Apr 15, 2019
Engel TW, et al. - In this prospective study involving cardiac arrest (CA) patients resuscitated in the emergency department (ED), end tidal CO2 (ETCO2) was compared with cerebral oximetry (CerOx) for return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) prediction during both out of hospital (OHCA) and EDCAs. Researchers analyzed 176 patients: 66.7% were witnessed and 52.8% had bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation. According to findings, return of spontaneous circulation in cardiac arrest could be efficiently predicted using both ETCO2 and rSO2. CerOx was identified as superior to ETCO2 in predicting return of spontaneous circulation.
