ENBD is associated with decreased tumor dissemination compared to PTBD in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma

Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery Sep 05, 2017

Higuchi R, et al. – Researchers performed a comparison of the incidence of tumor dissemination after preoperative endoscopic nasobiliary drainage (ENBD) with that after percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD) for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHC). For patients with PHC, the ENBD group indicated lower risk of postoperative tumor dissemination in comparison to the PTBD group and equivalent to that in the without drainage group. Thus, ENBD is the ideal procedure for preoperative biliary drainage.
