Empagliflozin induces transient diuresis without changing long-term overall fluid balance in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes Therapy Mar 03, 2018
Yasui A, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to acute and chronic changes in 24-h urine volume and fluid intake with empagliflozin in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Data shed light on the correlation between treatment initiation with empagliflozin in T2D Japanese patients with transient diuresis. Nonetheless, overall urine volume returned towards baseline levels within 4 weeks of treatment. Consistent data were yielded with a physiological, adaptive mechanism of the kidney for the maintenance of overall body fluid balance in response to treatment initiation with the sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor.
