Empagliflozin directly improves diastolic function in human heart failure

European Journal of Heart Failure Oct 26, 2018

Pabel S, et al. - Given the influence of empagliflozin on reduced mortality and hospitalization for heart failure (HF), researchers assessed whether empagliflozin may cause direct pleiotropic effects on the myocardium. They performed contractility experiments within toto-isolated human systolic end-stage HF ventricular trabeculae. Observations suggested that empagliflozin may produce direct pleiotropic effects on the myocardium by improving diastolic stiffness and hence diastolic function. Diabetic conditions do not influence these effects.
