Emergency medicine physicians' ability to predict hospital admission at the time of triage
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Jun 27, 2018
Vlodaver ZK, et al. - In this prospective cohort study of physicians conducted at a large urban hospital, researchers determined if experienced emergency medicine physicians can accurately predict the likelihood of admission for patients at the time of triage. Physicians exhibited poor performance at the time of triage in predicting which patients would be admitted, even when they were confident in their predictions. In predicting who would be discharged, on the other hand, physicians were accurate. Reasonable accuracy was exhibited by physicians in predicting the service to which patients were ultimately admitted.
