Xu T, et al. - The effect of insurance expansion on Emergency Department (ED) utilization was analyzed among the uninsured in Maryland, which expanded Medicaid eligibility and created health insurance exchanges in 2014. Researchers retrospectively analysed the statewide administrative claims from July 2012 to December 2015 and identified a modest relative increase in ED visits among the uninsured in association with insurance expansion in Maryland. This increase seemed driven by increases in higher-acuity visits.
