Emergency Department discharge of pulmonary embolus patients
Academic Emergency Medicine Jun 19, 2018
Peacock WF, et al. - Researchers investigated if low-risk pulmonary embolism (PE) patients discharged from the Emergency Department (ED) on rivaroxaban require fewer hospital days compared to standard of care (SOC). They performed a multicenter, open-label randomized trial in low-risk PE defined by Hestia criteria. Observations revealed that compared to low-risk ED PE patients receiving SOC, those receiving early discharge on rivaroxaban had similar outcomes, but fewer total hospital days and lower costs over 30 days.
