Alavinezhad A, Ghorani V, Rajabi O, et al. - Researchers investigated how Z. multiflora impacts clinical symptoms, pulmonary function tests (PFT), oxidative stress as well as cytokine levels in asthmatic patients. This study included 36 asthmatic patients. The participants were split into: placebo group (P), two groups managed with Z. multiflora extract (5 and 10 mg/kg/day, as Z5 and Z10, respectively), (n = 12 in each group). For two months, medications were given three times a day. Prior to treatment (step 0), one (step 1) and two months (step 2) post- treatment, the measurements of various parameters were analyzed. In steps 1 and 2 vs step 0, a significant improvement was evident in clinical symptoms and PFTs in Z5 and Z10 groups. In step 2 vs step 0, betterment of oxidative stress, cytokines levels and their gene expression were noted post-treatment with both doses of extract. Study's findings are suggestive of Z. multiflora's therapeutic value for the management of asthma.
