Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection increases the readmission rate of COPD patients
International Journal of COPD Oct 10, 2018
Choi J, et al. - In this retrospective review, researchers investigated the impact of the bacterium or virus identified on the readmission rate of patients with severe acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD), to sought for any possible variations. They analyzed medical records of 704 severe AECOPD events at Korea University Guro Hospital from January 2011 to May 2017. Two groups of events were formed, one in which patients were readmitted within 30 days after discharge and the other in which there was no readmission. A total of 704 events were reported, of which 65 were followed by readmission within 30 days. A higher readmission rate was observed in AECOPD patients in relation to P. aeruginosa identification.
