Helicobacter pylori infection reduces the risk of Barrett's esophagus: A meta-analysis and systematic review
Helicobacter Jul 01, 2018
Eross B, et al. - Researchers evaluated the risk of Barrett's esophagus (BE) in the context of Helicobacter pylori infection (HPI) through a systematic review and meta-analysis. From inception until December 2016, a systematic search was conducted in 3 databases for studies on BE with data on the prevalence of HPI. In the meta-analysis, 72 studies were incorporated, including 84,717 BE cases and 390,749 controls. It was observed that HPI was correlated with decreased risk of BE and this risk reduction was independent of geographical location. Data reported that HPI was correlated with significantly lower risk of dysplastic, non-dysplastic, and long segment BE.
