Helicobacter pylori infection and serum pepsinogen level with the risk of gastric precancerous conditions: A cross-sectional study of high-risk gastric cancer population in China
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology Nov 02, 2020
Zhou X, Zhu H, Zhu C, et al. - Researchers undertook this nationwide multicenter cross-sectional study to explore risk factors of gastric precancerous conditions. Participants were persons who attended 115 hospitals in China for gastric cancer screening. A series of questionnaires helped in obtaining information about lifestyle habits and personal details. A 1.4-fold higher risk of having gastric precancerous conditions was observed in patients with H. pylori. In addition, precancerous conditions were found to be related to factors such as advanced age, male gender, H. pylori infection, and smoking in a large population. A decreased risk of having precancerous lesions was noted in correlation with regular white meat consumption and higher pepsinogen I level.
