BRAF mutation in papillary thyroid cancer—Prevalence and clinical correlation in a South-East Asian cohort
Clinical Otolaryngology Feb 19, 2019
Goh X, et al. - The prevalence and clinical significance of BRAF mutation in papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) patients were determined via this retrospective cohort study of 75 consecutive archival thyroid specimens from patients who had thyroidectomy for PTC. Using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique, researchers detected BRAF mutation in 56% (42/75) of PTC. Observations revealed locally advanced disease, but not worse survival, correlated with BRAF mutation-positive tumors. However, clinical outcomes did not significantly correlate to BRAF mutation status.
