Elevated serum interleukin-32 levels in patients with endometriosis: A cross-sectional study
American Journal of Reproductive Immunology May 23, 2019
Choi YS, et al. - Researchers determined if serum interleukin (IL)-32 level might serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis of endometriosis. For this purpose, they identified 50 patients with histologically confirmed endometriosis as well as controls (n=35). From all participants, serum samples were used to analyze IL-32, IL-6, IL-10, tumor necrosis factor, IL-1β, and CA-125 levels via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. An area under the curve (AUC) of 0. 638 was generated when the diagnostic power of serum IL-32 was assessed. Combination of serum IL-32 and CA-125 levels resulted in an increased AUC value of 0.749 with sensitivity of 60.0% and specificity of 82.9% at cut-off value of 0.640. Patients with endometriosis had elevated serum IL-32 levels. In combination with serum CA-125 levels, serum IL-32 levels could be a potential biomarker for endometriosis.
