Elevated preoperative von Willebrand Factor is associated with perioperative thrombosis in infants and neonates with congenital heart disease
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis Oct 11, 2017
Hunt R, et al. - The researchers aimed to delineate perioperative changes to von Willebrand Factor (VWF), ADAMTS-13 and NETosis and evaluate clinical and biochemical associations with postoperative thrombosis in infants and neonates with congenital heart disease. In the immediate postoperative period, these patients were exposed to high levels of VWF with diminished or minimal change to ADAMTS-13. Elevated preoperative VWF activity seemed linked with postoperative thrombosis in pediatric congenital heart disease (CHD).
