Elevated miR-615-3p expression predicts adverse clinical outcome and promotes proliferation and migration of prostate cancer cells
American Journal of Pathology Sep 23, 2019
Laursen EB, Fredsøe J, Schmidt L, et al. - In PC tissue specimens, The expression of miR-615-3p was measured from 239 men who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) in order to examine the clinical and biological significance of miR-615-3p in prostate cancer (PC). These findings were subsequently verified in three independent RP cohorts (N = 222, N = 273, and N = 387) and functional overexpression studies done in PC cells (PC3M). In four independent PC patient cohorts, high miR-615-3p expression was significantly correlated with biochemical recurrence (BCR). Further, in univariate and multivariate analysis following adjustment for the CAPRA-S nomogram in a merged RP cohort (N = 734), high miR-615-3p expression was a meaningful predictor of PC-specific survival (CSS). Besides, overexpression of miR-615-3p in PC cells (PC3M) significantly rose cell viability, proliferation, apoptosis, and migration. Collectively, the results imply that miR-615-3p is an important predictor of postoperative BCR and CSS and has oncogenic functions in PC cells.
