Elevated lipoprotein (a) levels are associated with the presence and severity of coronary artery disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 02, 2018
Zhang HW, et al. - Researchers studied the association of lipoprotein (a) [Lp(a)] to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with or without coronary artery diseases (CAD). Based on coronary angiography (CAG) results, patients were divided into CAD and non-CAD groups. They used Gensini Score (GS), the number of stenotic vessels, and the history of myocardial infarction (MI) to assess the severity of CAD. Higher Lp(a) levels were detected in the patients with MI, multiple-vessel disease and high GS vs those in their matched subgroups, as revealed in the CAD subgroup analysis. An independent association of elevated Lp(a) levels with the presence and severity of CAD was observed in patients with T2DM.
