Elevated lipoprotein(a) and LDL-cholesterol as predictors of the severity and complexity of angiographic lesions in patients with premature coronary artery disease
Journal of Clinical Lipidology Apr 10, 2018
Chieng D, et al. - Patients with premature coronary artery disease (CAD) were examined using the SYNTAX (SYNergy between PCI with TAXUS and Cardiac Surgery) and Gensini scores, to determine the link of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol with the severity and complexity of coronary artery lesions. The severity of CAD was significantly as well as independently predicted by elevated Lp(a) and LDL-cholesterol (in a range consistent with familial hypercholesterolaemia). Performing routine screening for both lipid disorders in younger patients presenting to the coronary care unit was recommended.
