Elevated lactate level predicts intensive care unit admissions, endoscopies and transfusions in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding
Clinical and Experimental Gastroenterology Jun 02, 2018
Shrestha MP, et al. - In this single-center, retrospective, cross-sectional study, experts aspired to explore whether lactate on presentation is predictive of need for intervention in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB). Study participants were patients ≥18 years old presenting to emergency with acute GIB between January 2014 and December 2014. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were involved in this investigation. In patients with acute GIB, elevated lactate level predicted the need for intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, transfusions, and endoscopies. Results of this study suggested that lactate measurement could be a useful adjunctive test in the triage of patients with acute GIB.
