Elevated first-trimester neutrophil count is closely associated with the development of maternal gestational diabetes mellitus and adverse pregnancy outcomes

Diabetes Apr 29, 2020

Sun T, Meng F, Zhao H, et al. - In order to examine the ability of different inflammatory blood cell parameters to predict the development of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and pregnancy outcomes, this retrospective study included 258 women with GDM and 1,154 women without GDM. The outcomes demonstrated that the incidence of GDM as well as glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin levels, the Homeostasis Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and the incidence of macrosomia and newborn weight were increased stepwise as the neutrophil count increased. According to spline regression, a significant linear link was noted between GDM incidence and continuous neutrophil count when it exceeded 5.0 × 109/L. Findings indicated that first-trimester neutrophil count is closely related to the development of GDM and adverse outcomes of pregnancy.
