Elevated expression of miR-21 and miR-155 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as potential biomarkers for lupus nephritis
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Nov 09, 2018
Khoshmirsafa M, et al. - Authors assessed the expression levels of microRNAs (miRNAs) miR-16, miR-21, miR-141, miR-146a, and miR-155 in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in 55 SLE patients with absent, inactive, or active nephritis, and healthy controls (HCs) using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Findings suggested a probable participation of overexpression of miR-21 and miR-155 in PBMCs in LN pathophysiology and these miRNAs may be effective biomarkers for the condition. Significantly greater MiR-21 and miR-155 levels were seen in the active nephritis group vs the absent, inactive or HC groups.
