Electroconvulsive therapy in bipolar depression – Effectiveness and prognostic factors
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Jul 27, 2019
Popiolek K, et al. - In patients hospitalized for bipolar depression, prognosticators for response to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) were investigated by analyzing data from several national Swedish registers. Inclusion of 1,251 patients with bipolar depression treated with ECT was done; of these, 80.2% achieved response. A higher response rate was evident in correlation to older age and lower response rate was noted among patients with a comorbid obsessive-compulsive disorder or personality disorder, and patients who had prior treatment with lamotrigine.
