Journal of Affective Disorders Nov 19, 2017
Socci C, et al. - Clinical features, treatment outcome, and tolerability were compared among young (18-45 years), middle age (46-64 years) and old (>65 years) drug-resistant major depressive patients treated with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). In elderly patients with treatment-resistant major depressive episode, the researchers supported the use of ECT, with rates of response around 70% and effectiveness being independent of age. The baseline cognitive impairment improved after ECT and no life-threatening adverse event was detected in the old age group.
