Elderly-onset of early rheumatoid arthritis is a risk factor for bone erosions, refractory to treatment: KURAMA cohort
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Mar 25, 2019
Murata K, et al. - From 2011 to 2015, 2182 individuals were estimated to analyze the impact of old age at disease onset on treatment and prognosis in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cases. They categorized candidates into 2 groups viz, the young-onset RA (YORA) including subjects <60 years old (n=117) and elderly-onset RA (EORA) comprising cases ≥60 years old (n=122). At baseline, they recorded higher disease activity in EORA as compared to in YORA. However, they reported comparable disease activity between EORA and YORA at 1 or 2 years. Higher incidence of bone erosion was noticed in EORA cases at baseline and at 2 years.
