Eighteen-year follow-up study of two alternative bearing surfaces used in total hip arthroplasty in the same young patients
Journal of Arthroplasty Oct 16, 2019
Kim YH, et al. - A total of 133 individuals (266 hips) younger than 55 years were recruited in this randomized, prospective trial done between January 1999 and April 2003 in order to contrast the long-term functional, radiographic, and CT scan outcomes and implant survivorship of ceramic-on-ceramic THA (C-O-C THA) and ceramic-on-highly X-linked polyethylene THA (C-O-HXLPE THA) in the same individuals. Provided the absence of illustrated preponderance of either C-O-C THA or the C-O-HXLPE THA, surgeons, and it was suggested that healthcare systems could rationally select the less costly device for everyday use except there is some compelling cause in an individual case to select one over the other (such as revision THA for ceramic fracture).
