Eicosapentaenoic acid reduces fecal levels of calprotectin and prevents relapse in patients with ulcerative colitis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Mar 21, 2018
Scaioli E, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to the ability of the free fatty acid form of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA-FFA) for reducing intestinal inflammation, using fecal level of calprotectin as a marker in subjects with ulcerative colitis (UC) at risk of relapse. It was reported that 6 months' administration of EPA-FFA reduced fecal levels of calprotectin with no serious adverse events. Data displayed that this agent could be used to induce and maintain symptom-free remission in patients with UC.
