EGF hijacks miR-198/FSTL1 wound-healing switch and steers a two-pronged pathway toward metastasis
Journal of Experimental Medicine Sep 15, 2017
Sundaram GM, et al. - Whether or not epidermal growth factor (EGF) hijacks miR-198/follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1) wound-healing switch and steers a two-pronged pathway toward metastasis, has been investigated in this study. Enabling the production of MMP9, FSTL1 blocks Wnt7a-mediated repression of extracellular signalÂregulated kinase phosphorylation. It degrades the extracellular matrix and facilitates metastasis. Based on the prognostic significance of the FSTL1-DIAPH1 gene pair, this study highlights it as an attractive target for therapeutic intervention.
