Efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in asthmatic children with vitamin D deficiency: A randomized controlled trial (ESDAC trial)
Pediatric Allergy and Immunology Apr 07, 2021
Jat KR, Goel N, Gupta N, et al. - Whether vitamin D supplementation is a safe and efficacious strategy for asthmatic children who were vitamin D deficient, was inquired in this double‐blind, randomized controlled trial. Participants were asthmatic children of 4‐12 years of age who exhibited 25‐hydroxyvitamin D concentrations < 20 ng/mL. The participants were randomly assigned to receive either vitamin D orally 1000 IU/d for 9 months or similar‐looking placebo. Overall, 250 children (125 in each group) were analyzed. Findings showed that asthma control was not improved by vitamin D supplementation of asthmatic children with vitamin D deficiency.
