Efficacy of twice-daily vs once-daily sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in the treatment of major depressive disorder: A retrospective study
Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment Feb 07, 2018
Modirrousta M, et al. - The authors conducted this retrospective study to compare the treatment outcomes of patients with the major depressive disorder (MDD) who received 2 sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) per day vs those who received 1 session per day, keeping the overall number of delivered pulses constant. For MDD patients, administration of 2 rTMS treatment sessions per day was tolerable. However, it did not seem to be inferior in efficacy to a once-daily protocol. Twice-daily administration had the benefit of producing symptom improvement over a shorter time span and required fewer visits to the clinic.
