Efficacy of treatments in primary spontaneous pneumothorax: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Respiratory Medicine | Mar 11, 2018
Vuong NL, et al. - The efficacy of all available treatments in primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP) was assessed herein. With respect to recurrence, no significant difference was seen between aspiration and tube drainage as treatment options for the first episode of PSP, however, aspiration vs tube drainage reduced hospitalization days. No significant difference was noted between thoracotomy with mechanical pleurodesis and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) with or without pleurodesis in terms of preventing recurrence in patients with recurrent or persistent PSP. VATS alone reduced complications compared with others treatments except for thoracotomy with abrasion.
