Efficacy of treatments for opioid-induced constipation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Feb 11, 2018
Nee J, et al. - This systematic review was performed to investigate the efficacy of peripheral μ-opioid receptor antagonists (methylnaltrexone, naloxone, naloxegol, alvimopan, axelopran, or naldemedine), lubiprostone, and prucalopride for the treatment of opioid induced constipation (OIC). Findings revealed that μ-opioid receptor antagonists were safe and effective. Compared to placebo, prescription-strength laxatives (prucalopride, lubiprostone) were slightly better in reducing OIC.
