Efficacy of tranexamic acid on operative bleeding in endoscopic sinus surgery: A meta-analysis and systematic review
The Laryngoscope Mar 24, 2019
Kim DH, et al. - In this meta-analysis and systematic review, researchers assessed the effectiveness of systemic tranexamic acid (might help control bleeding during surgery due to antifibrinolytic characteristics) vs control in blood loss, operative time, and surgical field and incidence of postoperative emesis and thromboembolism in endoscopic sinus surgery. In this investigation, 7 studies with 562 participants were reviewed. Findings suggested that systemic tranexamic acid administration could intraoperatively reduce operating time and blood loss, increasing surgeon satisfaction. It did not cause intraoperative hemodynamic instability, postoperative emetic events, or abnormality of the coagulation profile. Only a small number of studies have been enrolled, so the results of this study need to be confirmed by further trials.
