Efficacy of topical combination of 0.25% finasteride and 3% minoxidil vs 3% minoxidil solution in female pattern hair loss: A randomized, double-blind, controlled study
American Journal of Clinical Dermatology Feb 20, 2019
Suchonwanit P, et al. - In this prospective, randomized, double-blind study, 30 postmenopausal females were studied to analyze the effectiveness and safety of topical 0.25% finasteride plus 3% minoxidil solution and 3% minoxidil solution alone in the treatment of female pattern hair loss (FPHL). Overall, researchers found no systemic side effects, but did note an increase in hair density and diameter in both groups by 24 weeks. Combination finasteride/minoxidil, however, was found to be significantly superior to the minoxidil only with respect to hair diameter. Though, serum dihydrotestosterone levels in the finasteride/minoxidil group significantly decreased from baseline.
