Efficacy of pre-hospital rapid sequence intubation in paediatric traumatic brain injury: A 9-year observational study
Injury Feb 20, 2018
Heschl S, et al. - Mortality and functional outcomes were compared after 6 months between children with traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) who underwent pre-hospital rapid sequence intubation (RSI) by trained intensive care paramedics (ICP) or received no intubation. It was observed that in pediatric patients with TBIs, highly-trained paramedics safely performed pre-hospital RSI. Overall, more favorable long-term outcomes were evident in patients who received pre-hospital intubation than those who did not. For major trauma patients, intubation prior to transport might be beneficial.
