Efficacy of pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation in adolescent smokers: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Nicotine & Tobacco Research Aug 31, 2018
Myung SK, et al. - Researchers performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to evaluate the efficacy of pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation among adolescent smokers. They searched a total of 1035 articles. Of these, 9 RCTs were included in the final analysis, these RCTs involved 1188 adolescent smokers aged 12 to 20 years with 627 in the intervention group and 561 in the control group. Findings suggest an enhanced abstinence rate in patients with pharmacotherapy compared to the control group. The subgroup meta-analyses by follow-up period showed that it increased the abstinence rate at 4 weeks and had no effect on abstinence during the longer-term follow-up periods up to 52 weeks.
