Dermatologic Therapy Sep 08, 2020
Alyasin S, Nabavizadeh SH, Esmaeilzadeh H, et al. - Via a double blind, randomized controlled clinical trial in Emam Reza clinic, Shiraz, Iran, researchers investigated whether whey protein affords an efficacious option for managing patients with contact dermatitis. They randomized 25 patients in each group to receive whey protein or placebo powder, 30 gr in 200 cc warm water at fasting time for four weeks. Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) questionnaire and the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) score were employed as outcome measures. Following the intervention, a significant reduction was noted in the scores of EASI, DLQI and subjective total improvement in the drug group, vs baseline. However, there were no changes in the placebo group. Based on the findings, it appeared that symptoms of contact dermatitis could be improved by oral supplementation of whey protein vs placebo.
