Efficacy of lianhuaqingwen granules in the management of chronic rhinosinusitis without nasal polyps
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Oct 29, 2019
Lin L, et al. - Since chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a complicated disease with clinical symptoms that are caused by the absence or presence of nasal polyps (CRSsNP or CRSwNP), researchers assessed the impact of Chinese traditional medicine lianhuaqingwen granules on CRSsNP. They involved patients with CRSsNP and randomized into placebo or lianhuaqingwen (LHQW) granules treatment group (placebo or LHQW group). Using Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT)-22, their clinical symptoms were scored. this one-month study was finished by 140 patients with CRSsNP. After the treatment of LHQW, but not after placebo, VAS and SNOT-22 scores and nasal resistance were all reduced distinctly. However, in comparison with the placebo group, the nasal NO concentration was increased in LHQW administration group. Such findings show that treatment with LHQW granules can control the inflammation in nasal mucosa and lead to improvement of CRSsNP. In the management of this disease, this Chinese medicine might become a promising therapy.
