Efficacy of distal perfusion cannulae in preventing limb ischemia during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Artificial Organs | Aug 15, 2017
Juo YY, et al. – Authors in this study examined the available literature and reported association between distal perfusion cannulae (DPC) and risk of limb ischemia. In adults treated with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA–ECMO), DPC placement seemed associated with a lower incidence of limb ischemia. Currently, they identified no consensus guidelines regarding indication for DPC placement. Given the association described in this analysis, future prospective trials are justified to establish a causal relationship and optimal technique for the use of DPC in patients treated with VA–ECMO.
