Efficacy of direct-acting antivirals for chronic hepatitis C in a large cohort of older adults in the United States
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Oct 28, 2019
Pan CQ, Gayam V, Rabinovich C, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers examined a large cohort of individuals in a real-life clinical practice, including patients with chronic hepatitis C infection, to determine whether direct-acting antiviral (DAA) regimens are an effective and tolerable treatment option for older people in this patient population. Participants included patients aged 65 years and older and patients younger than 65 years. Despite the presence of a significantly higher frequency of fibrosis in older people, high rates of sustained virologic response rate were achieved in all age groups with DAAs, and the age of the patient did not appear to have a significant influence on the effectiveness of DAAs—including patients in the oldest age category (≥ 75 years).
