Efficacy of bilateral transversus abdominis plane and ilioinguinal-iliohypogastric nerve blocks for postcaesarean delivery pain relief under spinal anesthesia
Anesthesiology Research and Practice Jan 30, 2018
Ahemed SA, et al. - Given the benefits of transversus abdominis plane (TAP) and ilioinguinal-iliohypogastric (II-IH) nerve blocks on pain after caesarean delivery via Pfannenstiel incision, researchers carried out an institutional-based prospective observational cohort study to compare the analgesic efficacy of these blocks after caesarean delivery. Although TAP and II-IH blocks showed no statically significant difference in terms of postoperative pain score, but the II-IH block, compared with TAP, significantly reduced the total tramadol consumption and prolonged the time to first analgesic request. Hence, researchers recommended the II-IH nerve block.
