Efficacy of abatacept tapering therapy for sustained remission in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: Prospective single-center study
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Feb 03, 2019
Yoshida S, et al. - In this study, researchers examined 51 individuals to investigate the sustenance of remission for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) cases after decreasing abatacept (ABT). They observed 29 candidates who achieved remission and a power Doppler (PD) score ≤1 at each joint at 36 weeks, followed by tapering ABT. Among them, 25 subjects sustained DAS28-CRP remission whereas no increase in DAS28-CRP was noted at 48 weeks with an elevation of the total PD score. Hence, they suggested ABT tapering, a suitable short-term approach to sustain remission in individuals with RA. They also recommended ultrasonography, a valuable tool to monitor the disease activity after tapering ABT.
