Efficacy of a single-dose regimen of inactivated whole-cell oral cholera vaccine: Results from 2 years of follow-up of a randomised trial
The Lancet Infectious Diseases Jun 03, 2018
Qadri F, et al. - Researchers reported the 2 years follow-up results of their placebo-controlled, double-blind trial performed in Dhaka, Bangladesh including individuals aged 1 year or older receiving a single dose of inactivated oral cholera vaccine (OCV) or oral placebo. Previously, they reported the efficacy of a single dose of an OCV vaccine during the 6 months following dosing. Findings revealed that among older children and adults, a single dose of the inactivated whole-cell OCV offered protection that was sustained for at least 2 years. Young children showed no protection suggesting a lesser degree of pre-existing natural immunity in this age group.
