Efficacy of a Mediterranean diet supplemented with fatty fish in ameliorating inflammation in paediatric asthma: A randomised controlled trial
Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics Nov 04, 2018
Papamichael MM, et al. - In 64 Greek asthmatic children, researchers tested how eating a Mediterranean diet supplemented with two meals of 150 grams of cooked fatty fish weekly (intervention) vs the usual diet (control) impacts pulmonary function in children aged 5–12 years with mild asthma via a single-centered, 6-month, parallel randomized controlled trial. A significant result was noted after adjusting for age, sex, body mass index and regular physical activity. For spirometry, asthma control and quality of life scores, no difference was found. For decreasing airway inflammation in childhood asthma, a Mediterranean diet supplemented with two fatty fish meals per week could be a potential strategy.
